FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Deni Goure recorded three points and Alex Worthington earned his first win as a Bison as the Bloomington Bison erased a four-goal deficit and defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 5-4 in a shootout at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Friday evening.
Bloomington gave up multiple odd-man rushes in the first period and went down 3-0 at 13:40. Isaac Poulter stopped seven shots before being replaced by Worthington, who had not yet made his Bison debut. After allowing a goal on one of the first shots he faced, Worthington would finish the game with 21 saves, and three in the shootout.
After heading into the second period down 4-0 and even 15-15 in the shot column, Bloomington got into the score column at 6:23. Goure tipped in a point shot, and Lou-Felix Denis and Yu Chan Kong earned assists on the play. Over seven minutes later, Grant Porter scored from Goure and Nikita Sedov on the powerplay to climb to within two goals of tying the contest. The Bison outshot the Komets in the middle frame 14-10 and continued to pepper the Fort Wayne crease with chances in the third.
About five minutes into the final regulation stanza, Vladislav Kamenev redirected in a bid from Raivis Ansons and Tyler Rubin to make it a one-shot game. The Bison onslaught nearly lasted until the final horn, and with 63 seconds left on the game clock, Goure scored the tying tally from Denis and Dylan Finlay. Bloomington had 17 shots on goal in the third, and finished the game with a 51-32 edge.
Goure scored on the first shot of the shootout, and Worthington stopped all three Komets attempt to secure the win in his first regular season Bison game. Bloomington increased its season-opening point streak to six games and are tied with the Cincinnati Cyclones for first place in the Central Division with two fewer games played. The Bison play in Cincinnati Saturday at 3:10 p.m. CST.
