BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Chongmin Lee scored two powerplay goals and Isaac Poulter stopped 25 of 26 shots as the Bloomington Bison earned a 4-1 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets on Friday night at Grossinger Motors Arena. The Bison went 2-for-5 on the powerplay and were perfect on the penalty kill.
Bloomington drew first blood at 11:27 of the opening frame after Michael Milne made a perfect pass to Yu Chan Kong on an odd-man rush. Kong buried his first professional goal to ignite the home crowd. The Bison penalty kill continued its success from Opening Night and killed off two minor penalties in the frame. Bloomington would take a 1–0 lead and an 11–6 shots-on-goal-advantage into the locker room.
The Bison added to their lead at the 7:57 mark of the second period when Milne found Deni Goure at point-blank range, who was able to sneak the puck past the left pad of Fort Wayne’s goaltender. The Komets countered three minutes later after they capitalized on a blue-line turnover and cut the lead to one. Fort Wayne was called for slashing at the 17:14 mark, and Lee would restore the two-goal lead for Bloomington after receiving a beautiful pass from Vladislav Kamenev. Bloomington took a 3–1 lead into the locker room along with a 21–17 shots-on-goal advantage.
Eight seconds into the final frame, Fort Wayne was called for a slash, and a mere 44 seconds later, Lee netted his second goal of the night, from Killian Keicker-Olson and Kamenev to give Bloomington a 4-1 lead. The Bison stymied repeated late-stage efforts from Fort Wayne to improve their record to 2-0 and take sole possession of first place in the Central Division.
