BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Mikhail Abramov scored on the powerplay and Glebs Prohorenkovs netted his first Bison goal, but the Bloomington Bison fell 4-2 to the Indy Fuel at Grossinger Motors Arena on Saturday.
The Bison and Fuel began their exhibition match with even play, and though Bloomington fired four of the first five shots on net, Indy struck first. At 7:54, the Fuel capitalized on a cross-ice passing play, and doubled its lead 35 seconds later. Each team's penalty kill had a chance to show off by the end of the frame, and Bloomington headed into the intermission down 2-0 on the scoresheet.
Nearly five minutes into the middle period, Bloomington earned one minute and 57 seconds of a 5-on-3 powerplay, but would not score. Penalties continued, and the Bison successfully killed their next infraction. At 15:07 Indy scored the eventual-game-winning-goal and were assessed another penalty less than a minute later. Abramov capitalized on the powerplay with a redirection from Killian Kiecker-Olson and Artemiy Kuznetsov to pull the Bison within two goals of tying.
Bloomington took a carryover penalty into the third, and killed off another Fuel bid before Indy regained its three-goal lead at 13:35. With time dwindling, Prohorenkovs fired the puck behind Indy's goaltender but the Bison ran out of time and fell 4-2 while being outshot 39-22.
