BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Bloomington Bison Head Coach and VP of Hockey Operations Phillip Barski announced today that the team has signed defenseman Yu Chan Kong to a standard player contract for the 2026-27 season.
Kong, 22, skated in 47 games with the British Colombia Hockey League’s Surrey Eagles during the 2025-26 season and recorded 36 points (14g-22a). He led all BCHL defensemen in goals during the regular season and contributed four points (1g-3a) in five postseason games.
The 6-foot-2, 187-pound Seoul, South Korea native has represented his country at the national level many times and won the 2025-26 Asia Championship Silver Medal.
Kong also won an IIHF World Championship D1B Silver Medal in 2024-25 and a U20 D2A Gold Medal with the most assists (9) and points (11) by a defenseman in the tournament. Additionally, he captained South Korea to a Gold Medal at the 2021-22 U18 World Junior Championship.
