BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Bloomington Bison Head Coach and VP of Hockey Operations Phillip Barski announced today that goaltender Markus Rohneback Stensrud has signed a standard player contract for the 2026-27 season.
Stensrud, 22, has helped Storhamar of Norway’s EliteHockey Ligean capture three-straight championships and posted a 27-7 record last season with a .904 save percentage, 2.05 goals-against average and four shutouts. He recorded a 12-3 record with a .928 save percentage and 1.70 goals-against average in the postseason.
The Hamar, Norway native has amassed 121 EliteHockey Ligean games with a record of 93-17 while maintaining a .913 save percentage and 1.80 goals-against average. He has recorded five regular season shutouts. Additionally, Stensrud has a 23-5 postseason record with a .918 save percentage and 1.77 goals-against average.
Stensrud has received international honors multiple times over the course of his career, including a U16 Gold Medal, U18 World Junior Championship D1A Silver Medal and U20 World Junior Championship Bronze and Gold Medals.
The 5-foot-11, 174-pound backstop was named the Rookie of the Year during the 2022-23 season and had the best goals-against average in the Norwegian League during the 2023-24 season (1.62). He also earned the latter honor during the 2022-23 U20 D1A World Junior Championship with a 1.60 goals-against average and received the Best Goaltender Award in the tournament.
